The National Stock Exchange index is known as the Nifty. S&P CNX Nifty comprises of 50 stocks are traded that represent the 21 sectors in the economy. Other indices that are tracked on the NSE include the S&P CNX Nifty, CNX Nifty Junior, CNX IT, Bank Nifty, India VIX, CNX 100, S&P CNX DEFTY, CNX Midcap, Nifty Midcap 50, CNX Infra, CNX Realty.

As of December 2010, the market capitalization at NSE was more than US$ 1.6 trillion. Currently it’s owned by much large financial institution along with NYSE Euronext and Goldman Sachs that also have stake in NSE.
